SNFU is a Canadian hardcore punk band. They formed in 1981 in Edmonton, and relocated to Vancouver in 1992. They have released ten full-length albums and are cited as a formative influence on the skate punk subgenre. In their early years, SNFU built an audience across North America through energetic live performances and a dynamic punk sound. Their 1985 debut album ...And No One Else Wanted to Play has remained influential in underground circuits. They grew in popularity following two further studio albums, but disbanded in 1989 due to internal tensions. SNFU reformed two years later, however, in a second incarnation which found greater success. They signed with the prominent indie label Epitaph Records, achieved six-digit record sales and toured in support of larger groups. They became independent in 1997 after the expiration of their contract with Epitaph. They again disbanded in 2005, only to reform two years later. The group is fronted by the eccentric singer, lyricist, and artist Ken Chinn, credited as Mr. Chi Pig. Founding members and twin brothers Brent and Marc Belke helped create the band's melodic hardcorepunk sound with dual guitar work before their departures in 1998 and 2005, respectively. Nearly 30 musicians have played in the group, with only Chinn remaining constant. Since 2014, the band has consisted of Chinn, bassist Dave Bacon, guitarists Randy Steffes and Kurt Robertson, and drummers Jamie Oliver and Bati.

AFTERSHOW DOOR:

BITTER GROUNDS

https://www.facebook.com/BitterGroundsBand/?fref=ts

With a common history stretching all the way back to 1996, Bitter Grounds’ four members are certainly no newcomers to the punk rock scene, and their early bands were central to the Dutch punk scene in the late 90s and early 00s. After being in various bands since, they decided in 2015 to revisit their love for a furious blend of punk rock and ska, sometimes throwing in a reggae beat to mix things up. As a testament to their tireless dedication, the band started playing shows across Europe and recorded its first full-length album within a year of its formation.

Bitter Grounds recorded their debut album, titled ‘Hollowlands’, at the Amsterdam Recording Company in April 2016, with longtime partner in crime Menno Bakker manning the mixing table. Hollowlands’ eleven tracks contain the raw energy essential to punk rock, yet retain enough melody for audiences to sing along during the band’s energetic live shows. But don’t be fooled into thinking Bitter Grounds pull any punches, as even the band’s ska tracks retain a gritty edge not often heard in the genre. Lyrically the  band values asking questions above providing answers, and doesn’t subscribe to any particular world-view. Independent in the truest sense, the band doesn’t conform to anything or anyone.

With their debut record firmly under the belt, Bitter Grounds are now out there making a name for themselves across Europe. Having hit the ground running in 2016, 2017 will see the band increase the pace and up the ante, playing shows wherever they can.

SUPPORTS:

INKBOMB

www.inkbomb.nl
