MAD SIN
Mad Sin are celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year, that is a quarter of a century of uncompromising hard-hitting totally right in your face real deal not totally constrained by the psychobilly tag but veer into punk, country and metal influences too. Koefte formed the band in the then dissected and isolated urban island that was the city of Berlin. The tumultuous events that have transformed that city into not only the capital of the reunified Germany but arguably the musical epicentre of Europe have been mirrored by Mad Sin. The trio that started plying their trade, raw-boned rockabilly psychosis, in the squats and underground dives back in 1987 have evolved into a multi-layered quintet that tour the world and grace festival stages globally. It has not been an easy evolution so don't think for one minute that the aggression, fire and pure passion that has driven Mad Sin from their inception have anyway been diluted by their success.
The transition has not been without its massive peaks and troths of elation and devastation but Mad Sin have always bounced back, not only higher but have done so fuelled by the knocks and bruises that their lows have brought them. This street-fighting never say die refusal to stay down was never better displayed than in the making of their 2010 album 'Burn And Rise'. The band had suffered personal emotional and health problems on the run-up to the final writing and recording of the album, rather than wallow in self-pity they focused their energy and anger at the shit hand they had been dealt, span the bad karma around and battered out what has been acclaimed as their best recorded work of their careers to date. Propelled by a hugely impressive video clip to a song now already hailed as a Mad Sin classic 'Cursed' the album was soon picked up for heavy rotation by Mike Davies' BBC Radio One Punk Show in the UK. Better was soon to follow, the album smashed into the German and Finnish album charts, that's not some two-bit psychobilly chart but thee charts, the ones that normally harbour shit. World gigs playing to ever bigger and wildly enthusiastic crowds followed as Mad Sin toured their hit with their trademark work ethic of just hitting the road and partying hard on stage and off.
2012 quite understandably is going to be one that they want their fans and indeed themselves to remember and plan to mark it in style. Work on their new album with a working title 'Till Death Do us Party" is well underway, the title considered a fitting one given the trials, tribulations and triumphs of the band's last 25 years. It will play host to around 14 tracks and will be released in the autumn, around the same time as the band performed their first gig in 1987, you can expect it to be a mad mash in the vein of 'Chills n Thrills, God Save the Sin and Burn and Rise'. Mad Sin are planning a 25th anniversary gig in Berlin, where else, at around the same time. You need to keep your eyes out for news on this gig.
The band will not be playing any club dates in Germany prior to this show. They feel that having played relentlessly the length and breadth of the country throughout their history they are going to take a rest from it while they concentrate on the album.
They will be playing a very select festivals through the summer and a very few shows in europe.
But fans of live wrecking do not despair , they be back in the clubs touring with a vengeance once the new album has hit the streets.
Not content with working his arse off with Mad Sin Koefte has been penning a book, which he loosely describes as an autobiography, entitled 'Made In Wall Town' he will be not only telling his life story from childhood but also that of the Mad Sin boys, the Mad Sin Band and the violent, edgy but musically flourishing music scene in Berlin before the wall came down. There are also promises of some private stories never told before that will make your hair curl, but hopefully not the police knocking on the door. Further afield a DVD is planned for April/May 2013, all releases will be on People Like You Records.
One other snippet of information rumbles are being heard from an underground bunker packed with rockin' musicians named The Deviators trying to keep up with the rockabilly trash ravings of Koefte's lunatic evil twin who goes by the name of Kapitain Destroyous Villain, combined they are the KDV-Deviators. They say somebody was brave enough to press the 'record' button, the results will see the light of day on Drunkabilly records, but that my friends is a whole different story, watch this space.
